Basic Ladybug Party Supplies

It will be easiest if you do most of your shopping for your ladybug party supplies online.  This is because there is a much larger selection on the internet, with many more party supply stores.  You can, of course, choose to look at local stores; however, you may not be able to find all of the necessary items.

The first supplies you will need to look for are the following:

• Invitations
• Large plates
• Dessert plates
• Cups
• Napkins
• Plastic cutlery (spoons, forks, and knives)

You will need one of each of the above items for each guest attending the party.  You will also want to have at least a few extras of each, just in case.  For a good rule of thumb, purchase invitations in an amount equal to the number of guests; for everything else, purchase double the amount of guests.

If you are unable to find the basic items with in a ladybug theme, you can simply go with the colors of ladybugs.  You could purchase everything in red and black, and use green as an accent color (to mimic the color of the leaves on which ladybugs live).

Ladybug Party Supplies – Decorations

There are some items that you will likely want to purchase to help with decorations for the party.  You have some flexibility here, though, as not all of these items are necessary.  Work within your budget and decide which of the following items will work best for your party area:

• A ladybug tablecloth:  You can purchase one or create one.  To create one, simply cover a table with a red cloth or sheet and then place rounds of felt (or chocolate cookies!) all around the table to make the ladybug’s spots.
• Balloons:  Purchase Mylar or latex balloons—or both.  You may even want to buy helium-quality latex balloons and a helium tank so that you can fill up the party area with soaring balloons.
• Streamers:  If you cannot find ladybug streamers, buy streamers in red, black, and white and twist them together.

Ladybug Party Supplies – Crafts

Kids really enjoy doing crafts at parties, so planning to do a craft at your ladybug party is a good idea.  Plus, having a craft is a great way to settle kids down or to occupy kids as they arrive.  Make sure you purchase enough supplies for each guest, plus plenty of extras just in case.  Try the following craft:

Ladybug Antenna

Ladybug party supplies needed for each antenna:

• One red or black headband (the type girls use to hold their hair back from their faces)
• Two red or black pipe cleaners
• Two 1-inch round Styrofoam balls (these may be purchased white; paint and let dry prior to the party)
• Hot glue gun and hot glue

Directions:

• Twist each pipe cleaner around the top of the headband tightly twice.  Have adult adhere with a drop of hot glue.
• Insert the tip of each pipe cleaner into a Styrofoam ball. 
• Let the glue set for a moment, then wear the antenna!

Ladybug Party Supplies – The Cake

If you order a bakery cake, you may be able to designate a ladybug theme design.  Some bakeries may not have this theme available, though, as many tend to offer only the popular television and cartoon character themes.  So, you may want to try making (or at least decorating) your own cake or cupcakes.

This isn’t as difficult as it sounds—even for people who are not skilled at baking.  You can purchase a sheet cake, half a sheet cake, or cupcakes from a bakery and ask that they be unfrosted.  Then, all you will need to do is frost and decorate.  Here’s what you will need for the job:

• White frosting (any type); the quantity depends upon the amount you need to frost
• Red paste or gel food coloring (not liquid food coloring; red liquid coloring will turn the white frosting pink instead of red)
• Milk chocolate chips

Place the white frosting in a large bowl.  Add the red food coloring to the frosting and wisk until mixed well.  If the frosting is not red enough, add more food coloring and mix again.  Now, take the red frosting and cover the entire cake (or all of the cupcakes).  When finished, place the milk chocolate chips pointed side down all over the red frosting for the ladybug’s spots.  That’s all there is to it!

Ladybug Party Supplies – Party Favors

No party is complete without a goody bag of favors to send home with each of the guests.  Favor bags are a way of saying “thank you for coming!” so you want your favor bags to be great.

First of all, you will need to purchase either red paper bags (red lunch bags are acceptable) or cellophane gift bags.  Both of these are relatively inexpensive.  For the goodies to go inside the bags, take a look at various online party supply stores.  Some ladybug ideas that most children will like include the following:

• A small bag of red and black candies
• Ladybug stickers and/or ladybug temporary tattoos
• A ladybug bracelet, necklace, or ring
• A red or black rubber bouncy ball
• Red and black balloons for them to take home and inflate
• Wind-up bugs

Once the guests have gone home with their goody bags, you will know that they have enjoyed their time at your ladybug theme party.  After all, with all of the amazing ladybug party supplies, how could they not?
